Frequently asked questions

How is reading time calculated?
Reading time = word count ÷ words per minute (WPM). Default is 200 WPM — the average for adult silent reading. Results round up to the nearest minute.
What is a good WPM for students?
150 WPM is slow/complex text, 200 WPM is average, 250 WPM is fast. Academic material is often read at 150–200 WPM.
How is speaking time different from reading time?
Speaking aloud is slower — typically ~130 WPM. The tool shows a separate speaking estimate for presentations and speeches.
Does this count words like Word Counter?
